hopi ear treatment

also known as thermal auricular therapy, is a complementary therapy that has been used for centuries in many cultures. It involves placing a hollow, cone-shaped candle made of beeswax and cloth into the ear canal and lighting it at the other end. The candle is typically around 10 inches long and 0.5-1 inch wide.

The theory behind hopi ear candling is that the heat from the burning candle creates a vacuum that draws earwax and other impurities out of the ear canal and into the candle. It is believed to help improve ear health and relieve symptoms such as earache, tinnitus, sinus congestion, and headaches.

Care: there is no scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of hopi ear candling, however many clients enjoy hopi ear candling as a deeply relaxing treatment, not simply for the reason of wax extraction.

What to expect:

treatment is usually performed on a couch, lying on one side. All facial and neck jewellery/glasses are removed. Clothes are kept on; only the ear being treated, and face is exposed. A protective cloth will be placed over the ear and an ear candle will be gently inserted into the opening of the ear.

This procedure is then repeated on the other ear. During the treatment gentle heat around the ear and feeling of pressure being released may be felt. Popping sounds may also be heard as the ingredients are burning. Once both ears are treated a soothing ear and holistic facial massage is given. Wax may loosen after treatment and a course of treatment may be recommended.
