acupuncture
is a form of traditional Chinese medicine used for thousands of years. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. The practice of acupuncture is based on the idea that there are energy pathways, called meridians, that run through the body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, an acupuncturist can stimulate the body's natural healing processes and restore balance to the body's energy flow.
It is a broad system of medicine able to treat the patient on all levels: physical, mental, and emotional. This fundamental principle means the underlying cause of illness is dealt with rather than just the presenting symptoms, which are often a sign of distress at a deeper level.
Now widely acknowledged as a safe and effective form of complementary medicine, it has been shown to be effective in helping to treat a wide range of conditions, including pain, stress, anxiety, insomnia, digestive disorders, infertility, and it has also been used to help turn breech babies, among others.

What to expect:
Your practitioner will work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan based on your individual requirements and consult with you to understand fully your medical circumstances.
During the session, your practitioner will carefully insert fine acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. The needles may be used very lightly or left in place for several minutes, and they may gently manipulate them to further stimulate the body's energy flow. Many people find acupuncture to be a deeply relaxing and comfortable experience, and it is well-tolerated.
The needles are about as thick as two human hairs. There is usually only a very slight sensation as one enters the skin. Insertion depth is very shallow. Sometimes patients feel a momentary dull ache but this also only lasts a few seconds and is generally comfortable.
Acupuncture may be used alone or in combination with other forms of treatment, depending on the specific conditions.
